The Walkshop

Howard Smith Wharves

In order to successfully examine the Howard Smith Wharves a journey was undertaken from QUT along the Riverside bikeway arriving at the Story Bridge.
This bikeway is a popular travel route and the easiest way by land to have direct access to the site. The vast majority of people spotted along the journey are utilizing the area for exercise.

Notable spatial changes take place along the walking route. The journey begins at the botanical gardens side of QUT and snakes its way through the high-end restaurant area of Eagle Street Pier arriving quite suddenly at the almost desolate, abandoned looking site of the Howard Smith Wharves.

The Site is located under and beside The Story Bridge. The bridge and surrounding cliffs act as a buffer, sheltering the site from the noise of the busy city traffic. The interesting angles of the cliff face mirror the harsh constructed angles of the story bridge.
